1v1 Defending
In a 1v1 defending situation, it is always best not to dive in. Try and stall for time while your team mates tracking back too support you. Stay on your toes as you will have two decisions to make. Your first option is to put pressure on your opponent and try to tackle them. Do not give him time to run at you.
Your second option is to run with him while turning your body side ways. That way you can run fast and see which way he goes. This allows you to change direction quickly if needed.
Do not leave a gap in-between your legs as the attacker could just put the ball in between your legs and nut-meg you! Never stand straight when you’re tackling someone because if you do this you will make it easier for your opponent as he can go left or right past you.
If you stand at a certain angle it will be harder for them as it either forces them onto your stronger side whilst allowing you to change direction quicker.
If you feel that you cannot win the ball off your opponent then try to buy some time by standing your ground. Don't jump in too quick as this could leave you terrible exposed. jockey your opponent whilst support from team mates arrives shortly.
