Attacking Header

For an attacking header, accuracy is more important than trying to get power on the header. The ball will mostly come at you with pace so you dont have to worry about generating power. A downward header would pose the most problem for goal keepers. Try to head the ball just above the horizontal midline of the ball.

If your are meeting a cross, you have to choices:

One is to make fuller contact on the ball and aim for the near post. This is sometimes described as heading the ball back the way it came.

Another option would be to use the oace of the cross and deflect the ball off your forehead towards the far post.

This is a much harder option but defenders and goalkeepers most likely won't anticipate it.

Use arms for leverage to get more height as you jump. Try not to raise your arms too high as you might concede a free kick.

Before the cross is made, have a quick glance at goal and the goalkeepers position. Good awareness of your surroundings come in handy in tight situations. Know where the goal is and defenders around you. This will give you an edge.
