Blocking the Ball

You can block the ball in many ways using your foot, back or chest. Blocking the ball is very important when you’re defending.

Blocking can be painful at times but you can prevent many goals from doing it. When you are trying to jockey an opponent before he shoots, put your foot in front of the ball. This will most likely change the direction of the ball and put the ball away from your goal.

Don’t be afraid to put yourself in front of a shot. Yes, it hurts if your opposition has power in their shots but sometimes you have to take one for the team. It could be the difference between winning and losing the game.

Try to predict the flight of the ball when your opponent shoots and jump in front of the ball. It is very hard to block a shot from distance so close the gap between you and your opponent to increase chances of blocking.

As a last resort, you could also stand on the goal line to stop the shot. Attackers probably won't anticipate this when shooting at the goal. Making goal line clearences can boost your teams morales.
