Intercepting the ball

Intercepting the ball is more of an advanced technique for defending. The most important factor for intercepting is reading the game. Watch your opponent carefully and try to read who he is going to pass the ball too.

Stay on your toes and once he passes the ball, accelerate fast so you can get in front of your opponent. try not too mark the player too close as this could raise awareness causing the player in possession with the ball to change his mind and pass to someone else.

Be patient and keep a good distance away from him. If you don’t get there fast enough, sometimes their team mates will give them a “man on” call. This can alert him of danger and he will be more careful. Try not to over commit for challenges unless you have to as soccer is always about making the right decisions and also changing them.

Be alert for under-hit balls or misdirected pass. If you can steal the ball before it reaches the intended receiver, you wont have to tackle him.
