Placing the ball

Placing the ball into the goal is a lot different than the instep shot. Rather then use the top part of your foot for power, you will use the side of your foot for accuracy. This kind of shot is a lot more accurate than the instep shot but lacks power. This should only be used in close quarters.

Always try to go for accuracy rather then power

  • To execute properly, have a quick glance up to see where the goal keeper is positioned.

  • Plant your non-kicking foot about roughly 3-4 inches next to the ball.

  • Once you are position, swing your kicking foot and hit the ball with the side of your foot.

  • Lean your shoulders over the ball to keep the ball low and avoid over hitting the ball.

  • Don't try to hit the ball hard but concentrate on keeping the ball on the ground.
Always keep your cool when shooting. Some of the worse misses in soccer come from when the player panics and tries to take the shot quick. If you have time to take a touch before the shot, make sure you use this time to control the ball first before you shoot.

Tips
Think about passing the ball rather then striking it hard.

Have a quick glance up at goal before the shot. Keep a mental picture in your head of where you want the ball to go.

Don't get intimidated by the goal keeper, there is always a way to beat them!

It is important to stay calm when in front of goal. Try not to panic.
