Soccer Heading Drill

This Soccer Heading Drill is fairly basic but i found it quite effective and fun when drilling it. For this excersise you will need the following:

  • A ball
  • 2 team-mates to help
  • A goal
  • Goalkeeper (optional)
Once you have everything ready, you are good to go. To start this drill, one of your team-mates, will cross the ball into the box. It is your job to try and head it towards goals, preferbly aiming for the corners and hard-to-reach places to make it difficult for the keeper.

Your other team mate, will try to defend against the cross by trying to head away from goal.

Get yourself into a good position and try to time your run with the cross. Depending on how the defender tries to defend the cross, they will most likely man-mark you and get infront of the cross to block you off. Avoid this by moving around the box and don't just stay in one spot.

When heading the ball, keep your eyes on the ball and don't be afraid. Hitting the ball clean on your forehead will not hurt as much as it seems and you will be able to direct the ball in any direction easier.

Arch your back then nod your head when heading to generate power. Do this 5 times then switch to defending. You must learn to defend a cross as well as attack.
