Soccer Shooting Drill

This Soccer shooting drill is good for practising shots with balls coming in from different directions and angles. A good attacker must learn to adjust accordingly and must also be able to shoot with both their left and right foot.

For this exercise you will need:

  • 6 soccer balls.
  • A goal and goal keeper
  • 7 cones (optional)
  • 6 people to help you out

Set everything out by placing the cones around the penalty area like so.

Setting up the shooting drill

There should be a person at each of the cones numbered 1 - 6.

You should position yourself at the starting cone.

Starting the drill

shooting drill 1. Start running forward towards the goal like you are expecting a pass.

2. The person standing at cone 1 should pass the ball to you along the ground. Try to first time shoot the ball into the goal.

3. Run back to the starting cone.

4. Repeat Step 1, but this time the person at cone 2 will pass you the ball. The direction from which the ball is coming from is different from the first one so you must adjust accordingly to shoot at goal.

5. Run back to the starting cone.

6. Repeat step 1, but this time the person at cone 3 will throw you the ball. You can choose to header the ball or wait for a bounce and volley it.

7. Run back to the starting cone.

8. Repeat step 1, but with a pass from cone 4, then 5, then 6.

This exercise will help you get use to shooting balls that are coming in at different directions and angles.

I suggest going for placement shot rather then trying to shoot the ball with power. A well placed shot is better then trying to shoot with power and over-hitting the ball.

Most importantly, have fun!
