Soccer Skills

In order to improve your soccer skills, you must practice and refine what you know til it becomes second nature. Practice through repition may be boring but it is the most effective way to improve.

This is not the only way to improve your skills, as watching someone else do it can also help. This gives you a mental image of how it should be done.

There are many different skills you will want to practice in order to become a complete player. Skill is basically how well you can master and control the ball. Close control and good dribbling is a sign of good skill because precision with your feet is needed to be able to move the ball left and right in close quarters.

Some will naturally have better skill then others. Don't let this discourage you. With practice, you can improve your skill to catch up.

Fundamentals

Soccer Dribbling - Dribbling and being able to bring the ball is an improtant skill in soccer. Master this for good close control and faster dribbling.

Shielding the ball - Hold the ball while you wait for support, prevent yourself from being tackled. Useful when you find yourself in a tight situation.

Feints and Dummies - Good for fooling defenders and making them over commit or make mistakes. This makes it easier to take the ball past them.

Receiving the ball - Learn to bring the ball under your control when someone makes a pass to you. First touch is important.
