Soccer Striker
Striker
The main job of the soccer striker, of course, is too score goals. Without a goal scorer, it can be hard to win games. A good striker can most likely convert half chances, into goals. Thats what a good striker can do. Of course, depending on the opponents defence, it can be very hard to score. Strikers must have quick reactions and try to always be the first to loose balls.
They must be fast, good awareness of where the defenders are and quick reactions. The striker must also be able to shoot properly. Not with power but accuracy as most goals they score will most likely be in the box.
It is an advantage if the striker is fast as they can out run defenders tp create a few yards of breathing space to get the shot. Some strikers nowadays may not be as fast but use their brains. Getting into good positions is just as good, maybe even better as it puts defenders under lots of pressure and keeps the opponent thinking constantly.
The best positions for a striker would be between the two central defenders. Receiving the ball in this kind of position can give a good chance on goal for a first time shot. Strikers must focus on scoring goals and let the midfield do their job by supporting.
Strikers can also act as a line of defence and pressure defenders when they have the ball. This can cause them too make mistakes and ultimately, win the ball in a very good position. A good striker never loses focus and is always quick too react when they see the opponents errors.
A good example of a soccer striker would be Micheal Owen. He is known as the fox in the box because of his ability to score goals in the box with accurate shots on goal.
Support Striker
The supoort strikers role is not quite the same as the striker. Support strikers main role is to provide support for the midfield and striker as well as score goals. They must have:
- Good vision and awareness as well as the ability to supply the final pass.
- Good stamina
- Passing and shooting abilities
A good example of a support striker would be Robin Van Persie. A dutch forward who is often seen dropping back to help midfield, supplying the final pass and scoring goals on occasion.
