Standing Tackle

The standing tackle is all about being patient and watching the ball carefully. Do not jump in too fast. If you do, your opponent can take the ball around you. Be quick to get too your opponent but slow down once you get there.

Stay on your toes and be quick to react to any sudden movement. If you are confident, stick your feet in and tackle him but only do this if you can see the ball and you know you can get it. If not, watch him carefully and wait for him to make a mistake. Strength plays a big part of tackling.

Do not be scared to put pressure on your opponent as soccer is quite physical and having good strength helps. In the 50/50 challenges try and get more on the ball. That way you have got more chance of winning the ball. If your opponent has got their back towards you, keep the pressure on them and don’t allow them to turn goal side.

Here is a good trick. When your opponent has got their back towards you, poke your leg in-between there legs. If there legs are not open, it will be easy for you to get your leg around them from the side to knock the ball off them.
